The Farm’s Famous Sweet Corn has finally arrived!

This week’s box is all The Farm-

Sweet corn, carrots, red beets, white ice pickles, italian frying peppers, green cabbage and onions.

No fruit in the boxes this week as nothing lent itself to shipping well with these contents.

Care Instructions:

Sweet Corn begins loosing it’s sugar content the minute it’s picked from the stalk- Keep in the fridge until ready to use- for optimum flavor, use the same day it is received but it can be kept in the fridge for 5 days or longer- it will just be less sweet. Too hot to boil the corn? Farm tip- leave it in the husks and grill in for 4-5 minutes per side on a medium heat will steam the insides perfectly.

Carrots will again have the tops on them- remove the tops after unpacking so they don’t continue to draw moisture out of the bottoms. Fresh carrots will not hold up as well as storage carrots will- we recommend wrapping them in a damp dish cloth so they don’t dry out. Keep in the crisper section of the fridge and use within 3-5 days. The tops are edible- they make a great carrot top pesto!

Red Beets- same directions as the carrots for removing the greens- the bottoms will store up to 3 weeks in the crisper section of the fridge Don’t forget the greens! They are great sauteed with olive oil, garlic and bacon!

White “ice” pickles- An heirloom variety that is white-ish in color. No need to make pickles- they are a great snacking cucumber or cut up in salads! Store in the crisper for up to a week.

Italian frying peppers- Sweet, not hot- these are THE pepper for sausage peppers and onions- or great sauteed in any dish for that matter! Can also be used raw as any bell pepper would. Store in the fridge for up to a week.

Onions- hmm. I think I just mentioned sausage, peppers and onions- on my menu this week for sure! Storage onions should be kept in a cool, dark and dry environment- will last for weeks in the right conditions.

Green Cabbage will store up to 3 weeks in the fridge. Perfect for stuffed cabbage, coleslaw or butter braising cabbage quarters.
