Storage and care of this weeks items:

Cabbage- store in the fridge, will stay in the fridge for up to 3 weeks. Great as coleslaw, or try to cut into quarters and butter braise it!

Red Beets: Remove the beet greens from the bottoms when you unpack them so they don’t continue to draw moisture away from the beet bottoms. Store the bottoms in the crisper section for up to 2 weeks- don’t forget about those greens! A cold rinse then wrap in a dishtowel and store in the fridge until ready for use. Greens best if used within 3 days. Try them sauteed with olive oil, garlic and bacon.

Yellow Squash is best kept in the fridge- use within 5 days for optimum freshness. Ever try summer squash on the grill? Simply slice it the long way, add olive oil, salt & pepper and grill a couple minutes each side.

White Pickling Cucumbers- our famous “Ice” pickles. They are an heirloom variety that’s supposed to be that color! These are great for snacking or adding to a salad- a little thicker skin and more crunch than the green. A prefect summer treat.

Carrots- like the beets, remove the tops from the bottoms. The tops on the carrots are edible, also make good bunny or chicken food. These carrots may be small, but they are packed with flavor. Store in the crisper- best if used within 5 days.

Beans- yellow, green or purple- our beans are a labor of love! Store in the crisper, best if used within the week.

Bell Pepper- Store in the fridge- use within the week.

Italian Frying Peppers- sweet- not hot- store in the fridge. This is the pepper for sausage & peppers! Great for cooking or eating raw.

Apples- Store on counter out of direct sun, or in the fridge

Oranges- Store on the counter in the fruit bowl
